Melbourne Candid Series #1078 Flinders Station

Flinders Station, shades of grey,
Whispers stories worn away.
Stone and shadow, time stands tall,
Echoes move where footfalls fall.

A young man crosses, sleek and fast,
In monochrome, his moment passed.
Jacket crisp, his gaze ahead,
In silent film, where words are shed.

Past and present, black and white,
Merge and blur in morning light.

  2. This candid moment at Flinders Station captures a striking intersection of past and present. The grayscale palette echoes Melbourne’s layered history, while the solitary figure in motion adds a cinematic depth—like a still from a silent film. The use of the Sony A7RV and 35mm f1.4 GM lens delivers crisp texture and mood, enhancing the contrast between architectural permanence and fleeting human presence. It’s a powerful visual poem where movement, memory, and stillness all coexist. A masterful addition to the Melbourne Candid Series.

  4. A splendid portrait of this station, with some of the characters that bring it to life every day!

  5. Love this picture. Interesting to see how differently people move across the street. Some walking with purpose, some lazily, one on the phone with head down paying no attention. I hate seeing people do this, they make themselves an easy mark by not paying attention to their surroundings. The poem is perfect for the photo!

  8. I've seem Flinders Station many time in photos, and in the TV series "My Life is Murder" which is set in Melbourne. It is a lovely building with many people arriving or leaving, a perfect place for street photos
