Dickens hangs above Collins Street air,
Promising ale and serialised despair.
Empire flaps gently over modern shoes,
History waving with after-work blues.
Step inside—where characters gather at five,
Half in the novel, half just trying to survive.

ReplyDeleteSalutacions, James!
Life was hard in those Dickens' novels, so let's hope life is more gentle in this tavern. This is one way to identify the pub as British. Fine street photo with that classy looking lady.
ReplyDeleteI'd go to the Charles Dickens Tavern just to see what it is like.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know how many pubs called Dickens there are in the world.
Un clásico de toda la vida.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of such typical corner of Melburne. I wouldn't mind a lunch at the Chales Dickens Tavern.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how often the bartender hears, "Please sir, may I have some more?" Once again, your words make this one special.
ReplyDeleteThe verse is as wonderful as the photo. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNice photo. I would like to try the Charles Dickens Tavern.
