Sunlight spilled across Swanston Street,
Where tattoos, tourists, and tramlines meet.
One man crossed with iced coffee care,
Like philosophy lived in humid air.
Behind him marched the midday crowd,
Silent, weary, sunburnt, proud.
The city kept humming its concrete tune
Half jazz concerto, half hot afternoon.
