Scoresby Rodeo Series #1366 Chesterfield Farm

Beneath a hat as broad as prairie sky,
a rodeo clown waits for the next wild try.
The bulls take breath, the crowd takes shade,
while hot food and cold drinks keep commerce paid.

His smile is painted, his timing keen
guardian of chaos in the arena scene.
For every cowboy chasing glory's ring,
there's a clown nearby, ready to dodge everything.

  2. The Rodeo Clown is perhaps the most important athlete in the whole show. He is responsible for the safety of the Bull Riders. It is his job to keep an angry bull away from a fallen rider. They may also entertain the audience, but that is a secondary roll. They do this while keeping themselves away from the bull's horns. That takes speed and athletic ability.

  3. I live in the western US and it's so weird to me to think that you guys apparently have very similar rodeos over there on the other side of the planet! I've been enjoying your pictures. :)

  4. Rodeo clowns make it look effortless, but as Jeff says, they are the most important participants there.

  7. LOVE this, both the poem and the picture. I've never been to a rodeo in person, but have watched on tv and boy are those clowns a life saver. They must be very brave to jump in like they do to help get the cowboy to safety.
