On a Warrnambool path, the day walks with him
measured steps, eyes forward, breath steady.
The line of the road holds its quiet promise,
scrub and fence keeping counsel on either side.
Others drift behind like passing thoughts,
softened by distance, uninsistent.
Here, progress is simple:
one foot, then another, into the open air.
