Beneath a sign that promises
“Om Vegetarian — All You Can Eat,”
the carnivores of commerce stride
in steady, sunlit beat.
A Coles bag swings like a metronome
to footpath percussion and shade,
while sunglasses guard their private thoughts
from the bargains just displayed.
“I ♥ Melbourne,” declares above,
as if we needed proof
the city hums in monochrome
beneath a corrugated roof.
One man drifts with pillow in tow,
a soft rebellion on wheels;
another marches, long of limb,
in practical urban heels.
Graffiti mutters on the wall,
souvenirs wink from within
and somewhere between lunch and life
the afternoon strolls in.

ReplyDeleteLots going on here. The is street is always busy.
ReplyDeleteThis "vegetarian" is right to warn us. Those of us who aren't "initiated" on the subject have no business being there.
ReplyDeleteGood point!
Beautiful place to walk. It seems it's not as clean as it should be.
ReplyDeleteLa vida s'ensuma a cada pas.
ReplyDeleteSalutacions.
She went shopping and he went along to accompany her. He runs or walks regularly, but she does not. He is wearing his trainers, but she has on sandals. Vegetarian food must taste good or no one would ever eat there, at least not a second time.
ReplyDeleteSo many great lines in your verses, Roentare. Life goes on in fascinating Melbourne. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGraffiti mutters on a wall---- I love that line!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully observed. The way you capture everyday movement and turn it into something poetic makes the whole scene come alive. I could picture it all so clearly.
ReplyDeleteYour poem described the scene wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteGood shot. He has long legs! I googled Om Vegetarian, looks like my kinda place :-D
ReplyDeleteWell done as always. You capture the photography beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
