Two bags each, and a pastry mid-bite,
Commerce accomplished in broad daylight.
One scans the street like a seasoned scout,
The other’s more focused on what’s in her mouth.
“Glassons,” the logos quietly proclaim
Proof that restraint is a negotiable game.
Behind them, a man checks messages unseen,
While the city performs its usual in-between.
No grand event, no curtain, no cue
Just errands, indulgence, and a crossing to do.
Yet in this small theatre of pavement and pace,
Retail meets ritual—with crumbs on its face.

Street photography featuring pretty young women is always appealing. These two are obviously on a shopping trip, having success, and are enjoying themselves.

Great poem and great photo. Thanks--this has me pondering the moment and the joy of simple rituals and daily routines.
ReplyDeleteFor once, ladies communicate with each other and enjoyed themselves rather than just looking at the phones.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid in the 50's, the athletic shoe of choice was "Keds". That was the brand, and it almost became a generic for what we called tennis shoes. The girl on the left is wearing shoes that look exactly like those ancient Keds. That created a very nostalgic mood for me as I explored this image-- one of my favorites from this series.

ReplyDeleteThe poetry ties it together nicely, turning a simple street scene into something with character and flow.
