Scoresby Rodeo Series #1363 Chesterfield Farm

Under carnival floodlights
a cowboy waits on a patient horse
like he’s buffering for the Wild West.

Dust hangs in the air
with all the drama of a low-budget apocalypse,
while the crowd watches
one man expertly supervise dirt.

The horse, meanwhile,
looks one second away
from asking for overtime pay.

This cowboy is there for the safety of the rough stock riders. His role in the rodeo is critical, and these men know exactly what they need to do.

I've attended hundreds of rodeos, and my university has a collegiate rodeo team.
