his eyes fixed on the scoop,
he lifts steam and grain
from a wide, waiting pan,
as if serving more
than just food.
Behind him, voices blur,
shapes soften into shadows,
but he stays sharp
a still point
in the hum of a market day.
In the simple act
of filling a plate,
there is rhythm,
there is care,
there is the small poetry
