Indeed, the realm of prize-winning street photography often seems dominated by themes of poverty or the horrors of war. This trend tends to overshadow genuine street photography, which frequently goes unappreciated. It is rather disheartening. I must acknowledge the need to seek out photographers in Melbourne who have a genuine passion for this genre.

  1. Composition and subject still matter, and this one is good in both ways.

  2. A few years ago I decided not to publish street images where poverty was the protagonist. I think there is much more to be done on the streets without dwelling on the misfortunes of others. I leave the photos of misfortunes and wars to the photo-journalists who risk their lives every day.

  5. Just today, from my terrace, I saw a woman skating with her two small daughters on scooters along the seafront. She was doing it really well.
For me, what you do in this space is pure street photography. War or denunciation photography, I think, is not street photography, it is more journalism.
