The tram rolls forth through evening’s haze,
Its weary load in tight embrace.
With sighs and shuffles, hands hold tight,
As city hums in fading light.
Through clinking rails and crowded air,
The rush of feet is everywhere.
A daily tide, both fast and slow,
Through Melbourne’s heart, they come and go.
