Down Elizabeth Street he strides alone,
a slender thread in the city’s tone,
jacket sharp in the autumn breeze,
moving swift with elegant ease.
Fancy ear pods crown his ears,
drowning out the city's cheers—
lost in rhythm, thought, or beat,
a silent world beneath his feet.
Glass and tramlights dance on skin,
as day and noise blur deep within.
He walks a line both near and far,
tethered to sound like a distant star.
Melbourne hums its morning tune,
but he moves on, immune, immune—
a figure drawn in motion's ink,
on city streets that barely blink.

Off Elizabeth, where neon hums
and tram-line dreams in silence come,
a storefront glows with muted grace,
its glass a veil, its light a face.
Inside, a stillness thick and bare—
few figures sit in twilight's care.
By tiled wall and table’s end,
they dine in hush, like time’s own friends.
Their shadows lean with gentle weight,
as if they’ve paused the hands of fate.
Steam curls soft from bowls held near,
warmth the only sound to hear.
No words disturb the breathing light,
just silhouettes against the night—
their stories hinted, not yet told,
in Melbourne’s chill, in silence bold.

Three youths stroll down Elizabeth Street,
City’s pulse beneath their feet.
Eyes like stars, dreams in flight,
Skyscrapers gleam in midday light.
In Melbourne's heart, so vast, so free,
Asian roots weave silently.
Forty percent and rising still,
A city shaped by every will.
Cultures blend like evening haze,
Languages ripple through alleyways.
Each step a story, proud and bold,
In streets where histories unfold.
So let them walk, and let it be—
A portrait of diversity.
In every face, a world to see,
Melbourne hums in harmony.

A flash of lycra, vivid, tight,
A helmet gleams in morning light.
Down Elizabeth, swift and free,
A biker blurs like poetry.
The city hums, the pavement sings,
Wheels spin dreams on fleeting wings.
Steel and flesh in motion blend—
A rush, a roar, the street’s own friend.
Between the buildings tall and gray,
The cyclist carves a fleeting way.
With every pedal, swift and sure,
The pulse of Melbourne rides secure.

On Elizabeth Street where trams roll slow,
Two figures walk where city breezes blow.
A mother and daughter, side by side,
In black and white, with quiet pride.
Their Collingwood shirts bold as the dawn,
Stripes like stories lovingly drawn.
The daughter’s disregard, light as lace,
Mirrors the confusion on her mother’s face.
Among the rush of Melbourne's hum,
Past café steam and traffic's drum,
They hold their own—a loyal thread
To cheers once roared, and legends said.
Hands entwined, hearts dressed the same,
Walking the path of a shared flame.
Not just a team, but a tale retold—
Of love, of legacy, and colors bold.

Among the crowd on Elizabeth Street,
two ladies — one wide, one thin
walked side by side in easy rhythm,
their laughter woven with the din.
My camera caught their fleeting glance,
a moment framed between our gaze
they pointed, smiling, half in jest,
half curious at my quiet craze.
The traffic hummed, the sunlight slid,
past tramlines tangled, silver, near
and in that instant, brief yet bold,
the city’s heart drew gently near.

Off Elizabeth Street, the air hums with noon
trams rattle, pigeons scatter crumbs.
A man stands easy, jumper looped around his neck,
glasses glinting like a second sun.
He props one foot upon the bench,
beside a quiet patron lost in thought,
their worlds just inches apart
one resting, one mid-motion.
The city flows around them
coffee scent, sirens, street chatter
and for a breath,
the scene becomes a sketch of Melbourne:
casual, alive,
where strangers share a bench
and time forgets to hurry.

I was always advised that one should own several suits before embarking on a professional career. However, for the past twenty years, I have worn the same suit, now so worn that even the sleeves bear holes.

A man lies still on marble cold,
Beneath the arches proud and old,
Where GPO in grandeur sleeps
And history its silence keeps.
Beside him, dumped without a name,
A cabinet, once prized, now shame—
Discarded wood, a hollow frame,
Much like the system, just the same.
The papers speak of growth and gain,
Of votes cast high for migrant trains,
To feed the beast, the market’s call,
That builds the towers, lets men fall.
For what is worth in gilded land,
When empty palms outstretch a hand?
And under stone, in shadow’s keep,
A nation buys, but will not weep.
